Stuart Gietel-Basten
is  an Associate Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Previously, he has been Associate Professor of Social Policy at the University of Oxford, an adviser in Population and Development at the UK Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology, and a Research Scholar at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria. He received his education at the University of Cambridge, with a PhD in historical demography. His research focuses on population and policy issues in Asia. In particular, he works on the causes and consequences of low fertility and population ageing.

is Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography at the University of Oxford. He was previously a professor of Geography at the University of Sheffield and the University of Leeds. His recent books include Injustice: Why social inequality still persists, A better politics: How government can make us happier, Inequality and the 1%, All that is solid: The great housing disaster, and Population Ten Billion.
